Stan Erhart

Stan's roots go back to the Kansas City farm, where tractors, country guitars, & Dad's harmonica tunes were the everyday background. As a kid, he first picked up his brother's baritone horn, followed by guitar, vocals, & woodwinds, later earning a music degree in Michigan. Long gig commutes to Chicago led to moving there to make a living at club work & private lessons, all the while working on his own blend of R&B, Rock, & Blues. Finally relocating to San Francisco, he formed one of the region's hardest working groups, playing clubs & events all over the Bay Area. They can keep 'em dancing at showcases or deliver a nice cocktail hour to the dinner crowd. Riviere & Simon, a duo that has delighted San Francisco Bay Area audiences for years, brings an eclectic yet unified and contemporary sound which spans a wide range of Brazilian songs, as well as original compositions.

Brazil is one of the most musically diverse countries in Latin America, and samba, with its African origin, is part of the rhythmic panorama the duo covers.  Riviere & Simon's music also has the sophisticated harmony and intimate singing of bossa nova (Jobim, João Gilberto). Additionally, they cover songs from different styles such as Brazilian Jazz (Hermeto Pascoal), Brazilian popular music (baião, MPB), and music by artists of the late 60’s, that anti-conventional, postmodern musical movement known as Tropicália (Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso). Another style included is the choro (“cry”) repertoire, an instrumental Brazilian popular music genre which originated in 19th century Rio de Janeiro. Despite its name, the music often has a fast tempo, and is characterized by syncopation, counterpoint and subtle modulations.

Vivian is a versatile flutist who plays Brazilian, jazz, salsa, and Classical styles of music. She plays flutes and adds percussion.

Pablo, originally from Argentina, sings and plays guitar. He also has recorded and produced two albums of Brazilian standards and original music.
