This is an opulent wine showing an amazing depth of fruit and spice. The oak usage is subtle and only shows itself once you get past the beautiful black cherry and perfumed aromatics. The mouth-feel is rich yet elegant as all of the components are in perfect balance.
The Armagh Vineyard is located in the Chileno Valley, Southwest of Petaluma in what is known as the Petaluma Gap. The fog and ocean breezes that cool the Carneros area come through the Petaluma Gap and allows the Chileno Valley to be five to ten degrees cooler on average than Carneros. What all this means in wine terms is, slower maturation of the fruit and longer hang time on the vine without the fruit getting overripe, thus avoiding prune-like flavors and keeping the alcohol content in check.
