2010 Pinot Noir- Estate Vineyard

The estate pinot occupies a solitary single acre on the steepest part of the estate vineyard. The soil is composed of decomposed sandstone and is well drained. The clone is entirely 667 which is noted for its good color and small berry size, especially when planted on steep slopes.

The 667 clone was chosen for its balanced structure and wonderful black cherry fruit, it is one of the few pinot clones that can stand on its own merit, most others that I have worked with need a little help with blending from other clones. The pinot is cane pruned and trellised to maximize quality and because it is planted on a steep slope, all of the farming has to be done by hand. Definitely a labor of love!

2010 Proved to be a big robust vintage here at the Estate Vineyard, and it certainly shows in the pinot noir. It is a hearty pinot with big black cherry fruit, lots of colour which gives it a big mouth-feel. It is dusty, earthy and very complex. Spice and black fruits are shown in abundance, and the palate lingers forever. This wine will age for many years to come, but it’s such a beauty now who will have the patience to wait?
