The 2014 Tondre’s Grapefield chardonnay has a beautiful aromatic nose. Clean crisp citrus aromas such as grapefruit come shining through, with hints of cantaloupe and bosc pear.
The palate has a juicy, almost creamy feel, yet allowing plenty of room for the refreshing crisp acidity to shine through. Hints of toast and acacia honey mingle delightfully on the finish.
The Tondre’ vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands, south of Salinas and west of Gonzales, has become well known for it’s pinot noir over the years; and like pinot noir, chardonnay thrives best in cooler areas. The cooler climate allows the flavours to mature without gaining excessive sugar, and maintaining the crisp acidity that classic white wines demand.
